December 8th and 9th Join us for Write for Rights!

Online event December 8th 4pm to 6pm Pacific Time

In Person Event December 9th in Kelowna 5pm to 7pm (Pacific Time)

Every year on or near Human Rights Day, Amnesty Okanagan community members come together to write letters on behalf of prisoners of conscience from all over the world. We welcome all seasoned and new letter writers in the Okanagan (and beyond!) to write with us at our  ‘Write for Rights’ event! This year one of our events will be online and one event in person.

We will write letters in support of the 10 people and communities identified by Amnesty International for 2021. The main goal is to use the power of letter-writing to influence world leaders to protect individuals or communities whose human rights have been denied. We will also write support letters and emails of support for the identified individuals. If you are on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook there are also opportunities to tweet or post support on those platforms.

This is a drop-in event, so there’s no need to be available during the entire 2½ hour block. We’ll be writing letters, sharing photos, chatting with other activists, and listening to great music! We encourage you to get together within your household/family/cohort to join this event!

Pre-registration on Eventbrite will help us plan and to provide you with this year’s cases and sample letters. You can register here. Once you register, you will receive the Zoom link for the meeting. Please email us with any questions you might have at amnestyokanagan@gmail.com.

We look forward to you joining us to help bring international attention and solidarity to these cases. We know that together we can make a real difference in people’s lives.
